This is one fan’s blog about the highs and lows of following Wigan Athletic FC. In 2012/13 the team won the FA Cup and qualified for the Europa League but were also relegated from the Premier League. The club have subsequently yoyoed between League One and the Championship. The club was put into administration by the Next Leader Fund in July 2020 but were taken over by the Phoenix 2021 in the second half of the 2020/21 season. In the 2021/22 season they won the League One title and were promoted back to the Championship. In 2022/23 the club were relegated back to League One after Phoenix 2021 failed to pay the players on five occasions. The club was issued with a winding up order by HMRC but on 14 June 2023 Wigan born businessman Mike Danson bought the club from Phoenix 2021. The blog will follow their attempts to get back to the top flight of English football.
