It was McClaren or Coyle. Unfortunately, Dave Whelan chose to believe the negative comments about McClaren, and chose Coyle – big mistake. The guy has one promotion to his name, and otherwise he is a serial faliure. One fan called him a `retread`, and that`s just about right. Sorry to say, Wigan may be spending several years in the Championship, if they don`t do a Wolves.

Information coming through suggests that the difference of opinion is about the resources required at the club, in particular the training facilities and youth development. I’m therefore optimistic that an agreement can be made and Roberto will be staying as manager next season.

If Roberto wants to take the club forward, then Dave Whelan will have to give him 100% backing,
if Dave Whelan dosent, its my opinion that the club will freefall back to the old days
and Roberto will leave
the way the club stands now with the amount of players that may leave, if Roberto leaves
would be a calamity, At the end of the day its Mr Whelans money, will he release the
funds Roberto is after ? will see. said the Zenmaster

Thanks for your kind comments. I think one of your former players Lee Dixon summed it up very well when he tweeted “Football is about winning. It’s about glory. As a player and a fan, you will remember 11/5/13 more than 14/5/13″. Winning the FA Cup and qualifying for Europe is more than we could have ever have imagined. The eight seasons in the Prem have been a fantastic experience but I’m sure we’ll be back for more very soon.

A fair assessment of a good game of football. In the end we produced a goal few would have prevented & that was always going to be a killer. Football is hard, you are going down because the table doesn’t lie but it is cruel that you were not given the opportunity to enjoy to enjoy the CF after the PL was over. Yet you will always have that magnificent triumph on record, if you can keep your squad together you can enjoy a season of being top dog & then rejoin the PL, where your football belongs now. 8 years & you always gave us a game, more than once more than that. Glad we gave you respect on Tuesday, we were applauding your team off the pitch rather than our own team. Good luck….

As they say it’s never over til the Fat Lady Sings, but it is now out of our hands as we are relying on others slipping up.
It looks like the injuries have been our downfall – with Ramis, Alcaraz and Figueroa in the team I’m sure we would have picked up enough points to survive.

We’ve got to cut out those sloppy passes in our own half, which have just crept back into our game in the last few weeks or so. Is it any coincidence that we are once again struggling to field a consistent back three?

As pants as the defending was last night, it was always going to be difficult for Caldwell to bed straight back into the side. Too many stupid mistakes are dooming us though.

I honestly didn’t see the incident that you are referring to. Overall I thought the game was very competitive but fairly played by both teams. My main concern was the inconsistency of the refereeing by Martin Atkinson and this was compounded by his incorrect decision on the late free kick.
